Navigate by Map, Not Just by Name

We know that you might not know every neighborhood name by heart. You might know you want to go out “near the river” or “just south of downtown,” but you don’t necessarily know where Kingfield ends and Lyndale begins.

That’s why we’ve built this interactive neighborhood map. Instead of forcing you to scroll through an alphabetical list of names that might not mean anything to you yet, you can explore the cities visually.

How to use the map:

  • Pan and Zoom: Use your mouse or fingers to fly over the metro area.
  • Click to Identify: Tap on any shaded area to instantly reveal the neighborhood’s official name.
  • Discover Local Culture: Every neighborhood polygon is a gateway to deeper local insights.

Our map does more than just show you boundaries; it connects you to the heartbeat of the Twin Cities. Once you click on a neighborhood, you’ll see two helpful resources designed to help you dive deeper:

Connect with the Community

View Neighborhood Restaurants: Want to know if a neighborhood has a great brunch scene or a hidden-gem dive bar? Click this button to see a curated list of dining options that define that specific area.

Visit the Neighborhood Association: The Twin Cities pride themselves on active community engagement. Use this link to visit the official neighborhood association website. There, you can find information on local events, zoning updates, community gardens, and ways to get involved in the future of your block.

Why does this only include Minneapolis and Saint Paul?

Local Gem Guide breaks down neighborhood level for what are defined as “Core Cities” within a metro. Suburbs are listed at city level, so there is less need to breakdown since they can be easily identified on a standard map. We made an intentional decision not to go to neighborhood level within suburbs primarily because large cities typically define these neighborhoods officially, while suburbs often have informal neighbors which are not legally recognized making it difficult to draw accurate borders. We still love our gems in the burbs!
